Objectives
Aims of the Course
Students attending the course will become familiar with
- the institutional analysis of resource and agriculture issues
- the problems with researching social-ecological systems
- different approaches proposed by institutional economics to analyse
social-ecological systems and the interface between ecological and institutional
economics
- the methodological issues involved in researching ecological issues from a
social science perspective
- discussions of leading figures of the respective research fields
- transaction cost economics and the methodological issues involved into its
application
- a transaction cost and property rights perspective on land conversion and
- a transaction costs perspective on contractual relation in the farming
sector
Participants will also have the opportunity
- to discuss the above-named issues with colleagues and leading researchers of
the respective fields and
- to attend a field visit for becoming familiar with farming issues in the
near surroundings of the location of the workshop
