Catalina Island Is A Quaint, Island Getaway

If you like the idea of a quaint, island getaway, Catalina Island may be your perfect vacation destination. The town of Avalon on Catalina Island is the only town in the country that regulates the number of cars that are allowed to drive on city streets and this regulations helps keep traffic and congestion to a minimum. Walking is the most common mode of transportation in Avalon and the town covers an area of just one square mile. Quaint doesn’t mean boring, however. Catalina Island offers a host of activities including snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, boat tours, and watercraft rentals. Getting to the Island

Catalina Island is part of the eight Channel Islands off the coast of southern California, and is the only one of the islands with a significant population. There are two towns on Catalina—Avalon and an unincorporated town called Two Harbors. There is no land bridge to Catalina so if you want to travel to the island, you will need to arrive by boat or helicopter. Once you are on the island, you can take advantage of local taxis or trolley services, or you can explore the hills around the town in a rented golf cart or on a bicycle.
