There are many reasons to plan a golf tournament. Maybe your company needs something to break the ice between departments or with a few clients. Perhaps you’re looking to raise money for a charitable cause. Or maybe, you just need to get something put together for a family reunion. With all the Farmington, NM golf courses to choose from, you’re sure to have a wonderful time and so will your participants.

Pick a Course

The venue is probably one of the most important choices when planning a tournament. If you pick a rinky-dink course the more serious golfers in your group will overplay or won’t take it seriously. If you pick a course with a good reputation and solid look everyone will feel comfortable and play their best. You can ask others in your department, on your committee or in your family if they have any connections with or a favorite golf course in the area. It makes it easy to get others on board if they are as excited about playing as you are.

Pick a Date

The date is hugely important. If you pick a holiday weekend, thinking everyone will have it off, you are likely to be disappointed by the lack of enthusiasm for your tournament. Most people plan their time off with their families and have a hard time getting out of the yearly camping trip or family reunion. Check with the boss before you make anything official. If there is a high school graduation in the area, or other huge event, you don’t want to conflict with.

Pick a Price

You’ll need to decide how much you are going to charge people to participate. It should be enough to cover green fees as well as the food and other expenses for the event. If you are doing a charity tournament, you may be able to get the caterers and other venders to cut you a deal. Just make it part of your pitch when you call to get information. Decide ahead of time if you are going to offer a prize other than bragging rights. You’ll also want to decide on shirts or other items for a gift bag. These may also be donated if you ask. Some companies are happy to give products as free publicity. As you work to plan your golf tournament at a Farmington, NM golf course taking the time to look at all the details will ensure that the event is a success.
